The Difference Between Talking to Yourself and Listening to Yourself!
The Caroline Doll, CEO of POSH PR®, shares her thoughts on what happens when we listen to ourselves versus when we talk to ourselves!
I’ve decided I have two voices. Not in an alarming, “I hear voices” sixth sense kind of way. But I have an inside-out voice, and an outside in. I listen to myself and I talk to myself.
If that opening sentence didn’t confuse you at all, bear with me as I explain to you what I mean.
The person you talk to the most is the person who has the most influence in your life. That person is YOU! I don’t know about you, but I never stop talking to myself. I think there is so much truth to saying we’re our own worst critique. We have a tendency to listen to the constant list of what-ifs and doubts circling in our minds. I don’t know about you, but more often than not, the first things I think about when I wake up are worries about what’s ahead for the day! “This project is due today but I have this meeting, how on earth will I get this done? I can’t!” “This person said that, but did they really mean this?” I’m always internally commenting on everything I encounter. If I’m being honest, doll, it can be physically exhausting.
This is me listening to myself, the inside-out voice. The passive inside voice manifesting into exhaustion on the outside.
But then there’s the outside-in voice. Taking what I really KNOW to be TRUE and letting it inspire me to action. Truth: I know there is no one else out there who can offer what I can offer. Truth: Today is an opportunity to start anew. Truth: Champagne Is Always The Answer. These are the positive truths I have to actively TELL myself. When I speak true words from the outside and let them sink, that’s when I’m inspired into action.
Conclusion? Let’s talk to ourselves more often. The encouraging words we tell our friends, let’s tell ourselves those words.
With #THEPRDOLLS Facebook group, we’ve created a place for encouragement and inspiration to be sent to your inbox on the daily, always with a touch of pretty. We’d love to talk to you, there! Learn more about joining here!
