Word of the Year: Pivot
Going into the New Year, The Caroline Doll, CEO of POSH PR®, chose "pivot" as her word of the year. Click here to learn why this is a little scary, but mostly exciting!
I’ve known what my word of the year was going to be for quite sometime. Back in November, I wrote all about the word “pivot” in my blog, “Why We’re Dancing”. “Pivot” was and is my word for 2018. I was comparing words of the year with some dolls of mine when I remembered my word for 2017 was “thrive”. Suddenly, I zoned out and literally had a little happy dance inside of my head. Why was I dancing, you ask? Well, I realized my 2017 word was SPOT on. (Call me Caroline, the foreseer!) But then, the wind was knocked out of my sails. 2018, we’re pivoting…
In Greek mythology, Cassandra was the goddess of prophecy. The only problem? Nobody believed her prophesies! Evidently, Apollo didn’t handle rejection very well so he cursed her to speak true prophecies that nobody wanted to believe. 2018 is already proving to be a year of pivoting and that scares me. Cassandra, I totally get you right now… (PS: This is what happens when you marry into a Greek family!)
We’re still dancing, but sometimes it’s a little more improv than seamless choreography. A little more street dance and a little less Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Because we thrived SO much in 2017, we’re pivoting. I love seeing the relationship between those two words. If you thrive enough, pivoting naturally becomes the next step!
To me, your word of the year should be an element you incorporate into every aspect of your life and/or business. It should be your expectation. It should be your CHOSEN perspective. By claiming the word “pivot” I want to challenge myself to boldly walk into change. I hope to gracefully accept the bumps in the road just as readily as I accept the green lights! Rather than allow myself to stop dead in my tracks when my plan doesn’t work out, I’m going to pivot turn into a dance no one has ever seen before, making something beautiful of it all!
I LOVE all of the new brands we’re working with. We truly are pivoting into purely PR and I am so grateful for this opportunity. It’s new and challenging, fun and overwhelming all at the same time. Part of me can’t believe this is happening, and the other part of me wants to help build every woman’s brand today!
I am a firm believer that when you put things out into the universe they have a higher chance of becoming a reality. SO! Here are some of my 2018 goals for the year:
- Continue to expand and hire more PR dolls so we can serve our clients in a more meaningful way
- Move into our NEW house and NEW POSH PR® office — eek more details to come!
- Growing #THEPRDOLLS membership so we can spread our knowledge and enhance other business owners
- Adding additional Social Media Management clients to the PR dolls family
- Taking time for ME and to actually put the phone and computer and #allthethings down and give myself GRACE when I do
