How to Deal: Rain or Shine

The Caroline Doll, CEO of Posh PR®, talks about how to keep moving forward in the eye of the storm.

You know what they say, “When it rains, it pours”? Well, my past two weeks took this literally.

It all started when I had a client fly in town for an outdoor photoshoot. The day before, my assistant and I managed to log 20,000 steps (each!) loading and unloading, taking multiple trips to the set. Everything was go-go-go! The next day, we started shooting outdoors and before you know it, there were dark, thundering clouds rolling in. We managed to get amazing shots; you can’t even tell there is a torrential down pour just above our models “soaking up the sun” in the pool! But girls, I was exhausted. Coming back to 270 unanswered e-mails, I just felt utterly deplete. It felt like the only way I could catch up was if I somehow followed Alice down the rabbit hole, and entered into my own Wonderland where e-mails answered themselves! In other words, catching up felt IMPOSSIBLE.

As you may know, I was in Florida this past week for another fabulous photo shoot. We arrived on Tuesday, the same day President Trump declared a federal emergency for Florida. Needless to say, panic mode was on HIGH alert! The stress was so tense as we, along with the rest of Florida, desperately tried to reschedule flights and get out of there safely and quickly! Everyone was flustered and panicking but we were blessed to arrive home safely!

I’m looking at the photos we were able to capture in the short amount of time we were there. It’s so unbelievable how beautiful, serene, and seemingly perfect the Florida beaches were. So still and peaceful, unknowing of the complete chaos that was to come.

Our worlds, both personally and cosmically, are such fragile places. It’s so confounding to me how one day you can feel on top of the world, ready to conquer that dream. And the next? It’s all you can do to get out of bed in the morning! (Honestly, this kind of swing can even happen within an hour!) Or when your fighting with your SO, and have a client meeting in five minutes. How do you manage business, how do you manage LIFE when you have no control of the unforeseen events to come?? Sometimes you just want to evacuate the whole situation! Looking at personal chaos, what’s happening in Florida, and what happened sixteen years ago on this date does makes me wonder what the point of it all is? What’s the purpose of it? Is there a purpose to it? How are you supposed to deal with it all, handle it, approach it?

I don’t want to pretend to have the answers, dolls. I don’t. But I hope I can offer encouraging wisdom. We can let exhaustion, chaos, and pain immobilize us, or ignite us. To dwell on the negative, is to miss out on the positive that IS there, I promise. I think that the beauty of life is that each day is a new day, a new beginning. We can take the hardships and turn them into good, allowing them to ignite a spark in us that insists on moving forward with a radiant, beautiful light. You need that; the clients you work with need that; the world needs that. Let it shine, dolls.
