They Won't Know Until I Tell...

The Caroline Doll, CEO of POSH PR®, on what "good communication skills" means to her!

As we’re looking to add a new doll to the POSH PR® team, we’ve been fine-tuning the qualities we’re looking for. It’s easy to list the ideal qualities on a job description, but that opens up the invitation to several different interpretations! But one qualification jumped out at us: “Excellent communication skills.”

This qualification seems to be listed on every job description. Whether the job is for graphic design, administration, writing, project management…the ability to communicate is essential. But what, exactly, does that even mean?!

Let’s get a little philosophical here, dolls. (I promise this will be fun…maybe. It was fun to me while reading about it.) You’ve probably heard the saying, “I think, therefore I am.” This was first voiced by the philosopher, Descartes. His argument? Because I can think, and I think about my myself, I exist. But I actually think this mentality is a mistake too many of us make all too frequently.

When it comes to marketing yourself, communication is the only way to exist! We can’t really know a thing unless we can communicate it. That’s what I love so much about PR. You have the power to tell people what to think and how to feel about you! The “you” you want to be, the “you” you want to exist, won’t exist until you tell people about you, until you give voice to who you are!

Good communication requires willingness. In order to be known, you have to be willing to be heard and willing to be judged. Good communication requires boldness!

It’s often said that leadership and communication go hand-in-hand. I think that, in and of itself, is telling! Leaders are people who dare to speak their minds! People who dare to do things in a certain way and are able to communicate and connect in a way that develops a following.

Be it through imagery, the way you talk, the way you dress — the way you brand yourself is the way you market yourself to your ideal client. Be bold and contact us here. Let’s communicate to your ideal client, doll!
