Success 101: Let Go of These 10 Things!

As the CEO + Boss Doll of POSH PR® I meet so many incredible women entrepreneurs and I’m so very fortunate to hear the stories and journeys they have taken to get where they are today. As with most things, there are always both the pretty AND the ugly sides of chasing your dreams, we’ve all experienced them at some point in our lives; but Dolls, let me tell you something, this world is yours and you can be anything you want!

“Change your mindset, change your world.”

This quote is something I tell all the women who come to me for advice and guidance. With some practice and a few tips I’ve outlined below, you can utilize this saying to reach your goals! Manifest the things you want in your life by removing negativities and roadblocks from your life!

1. Excuses

I never give an excuse, they’re your enemy when it comes to owning your mistakes. Yes, I’m talking Cinderella versus her evil stepmother type of enemy.  They stand in your way from blossoming into the Boss Doll™ you are meant to be!

While I usually prefer Barbie references, she doesn’t have any enemies because, well, she’s kind of perfect!

Anyway, EXCUSES! Take the word out of your vocabulary because you don’t need it, Dolls! Whenever you hear an excuse start to tiptoe into that pretty little head of yours, remind yourself of your dream life and remember, excuses will only take you further away from your very own cloud nine!

2. Fear of Failure

Dolls, I am always speaking from my own experience! I quit my $400,000 a year salary in medical sales to pursue my dream life, I even sold my dining room chairs to pay for my mortgage. Our failures make us stronger and teach us creative ways to find solutions!

If I would have let the fear of failure stand in my way, I would have never quit my job, started POSH PR®, or even be writing this blog for you to read right now!

My point is…don’t seek comfort and complacency when it comes to your future. You won’t know what you’re capable until you try. This may sound cliché, but it’s simply true! Wouldn’t you rather spend your life chasing your dreams?

3. Self Doubt

Here’s a bit of tough love to ring in number three—you are the only person in your life that you can 100% always count on! I’m not saying there aren’t amazing people in your life who can support you! Significant others, family members, your best friend, maybe your favorite salesman at the local Saks Fifth Avenue…however, YOU are responsible for you alone. And you are responsible for believing in yourself and your venture.

Dolls, if you don’t believe in you, how can you expect anyone else to? My advice is to apply your confidence like I apply my MAC Candy Yum-Yum pink shade of lipstick—every morning with a smile!

4. Procrastination

No matter how fabulous or smart everyone loses motivation from time to time and uses outside distractions to put off #dollthethings, but that is OKAY! As for myself, I am 100% a total stress cleaner! Let me define that term for you…

Stress-Cleaner: (noun.) One who has unstoppable urges to clean anything in sight when under minor or extreme amounts of stress.

Next to that definition includes a photo of me in the dictionary! Totally kidding…but seriously, I. Love. To. Clean. Especially when stressed! I find the activity to be one of my most used procrastinators.

However, I never like to focus on the problem, instead focus on the solution! My solution comes in the form of an Apple Music playlist full of Opera music. Yes, you read that right, Opera.  When I was a little girl my mother would always play Opera in the car and listening to it now reminds me of those precious moments as a child. It helps my mind stay focused while still channeling my inner Boss Doll™!

Find your solution to procrastination...but don’t procrastinate on finding it!

5. People Pleasing

Today, when you look at anything The Caroline Doll or POSH PR® related, you see lots of pretty pink colors, tulle skirts, Champagne flutes, and all things girly-chic! However, it wasn’t always like that! You see, when I first opened my own business, I tailored myself to fit the image I thought was expected of me.  When I finally realized I wasn’t being true to myself, I started wearing tulle skirts to my client meetings. Silly I know, but I was being ME! And you know what… I started working with my dream clients!

Dolls, unfortunately we can’t please everyone in the world so it is important that we are loyal to our true selves and people who are meant to be in our lives will stay!

6. Negative Self Talk

Remember in Elementary School, when you were constantly reminded to follow “the golden rule.” I vividly remember my third grade teacher, Ms. Seebold often pointing to the gold poster at the front of her classroom that read “Treat others as you want to be treated.”

…but now that I think about it, why didn’t it say “Treat YOURSELF as you want to be treated?” Well that’s The Caroline Doll’s version of the golden rule! I mean seriously, what would talking down to yourself do for you? NOTHING! So talk about yourself like the Boss Doll™ that you are and erase that negativity!

7. Comparison

Always remember: another woman’s success isn’t your failure, and another woman’s failure isn’t your success. There is no other Caroline Doll in the world, and that is my greatest super power, and YOU are the only one of you that will ever exist! Don’t waste your time trying to become a copy when you were made to be an original. The only thing we should be comparing in life is “do I want the new Gucci boots or another pair of Louboutin heels?!”

Remember you are your own star in the sky, Dolls! Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle!

8. Negative People in Your Circle

I was totally about to make a reference to the ever so classic movie…Mean Girls and explain how Katy Herron lost herself by hanging around negative people but instead, I won’t go through the entire explanation. All I am going to say about Mean Girls is if they’re in your circle, leave the circle. I always say that surrounding yourself with people who are ready to level up will only elevate your own life! And guess what? The negative Nancy’s and the nay sayers don’t deserve to live in your head rent free. If it doesn’t serve you or empower you, THROW IT OUT!

9. Negative Thinking

Okay dolls, ONE more analogy for today’s blog. So here it goes — as many of you already know, I follow a gluten free diet. What does that have to do with negative thinking you ask? Hear me out - if I decide to not care and eat croutons on my salad tomorrow, I won’t feel well. That’s because I have fueled my body with something it can’t have. So now instead of being “gluten-free,” your allergy is “negative-free.” Your mind simply cannot be fueled by any negative thinking! Having that negativity in your mind will only cause more problems so stick to your plan, Dolls! My best tip? Start each day with 3 “I Am” statements to get your mind refreshed and renewed before taking on the day like a Boss!

10. Fear of Success

This one may sound crazy and I know what you’re thinking: Who fears success? The truth is, success can be intimidating because to achieve success, you must be willing to take a chance on yourself and your ideas and honestly - that can be SO scary! Trust me though Doll, it is totally worth taking the risk. When you work as hard as you do, you deserve ALL of the success! We all have one life to live, it’s up to you to strive for what you want!

Dolls, I say this often but I opened my business so I could live my dream life while helping other women’s dream lives come true. With that being said, this advice comes from the bottom of my heart! Let go of these 10 things and I promise you will be 10 steps closer to your dream of becoming the entrepreneur you’ve always wanted to be!
